Daikagura Camellia Japonica

Camellia japonica 'daikagura'

The name of this spring-blooming camellia means 'Great Sacred Dance,' and refers to one of the oldest forms of traditional performing arts in Japan in which ordinary objects are used to create extraordinary experiences.  The 'Daikagura' camellia is anything but ordinary; its peony-form bloom displays stunning yet variable coloration, ranging from carmine red with white blotches to mostly white with pink edging. Some flowers will bloom solid red. Just like a good show, 'Daikagura' is full of pleasant surprises. The evergreen shrub displays slow, compact growth and grows in part shade to dappled sun. Pollinators appreciate the sweet nectar of its flowers, and you?ll enjoy a sneak peek of spring as it bursts into bloom each year! Camellias make an excellent stand-alone specimen, and look great as an informal hedge, border filler, or container planting.
